    ** Ok
I kind of enjoyed this book because it was against racism. I also enjoyed that Sylvia Mendez and her family fought for desegregation and that they never gave up. The pictures were a little "funny" and I'm a little too old for picture books, but it was well-written.

    **okay
The reason why i picked okay was it was a little hard for me to understand the book because i have no background on what this book is talking about. On thing i like about the book is the pictures there are different to the ones you would see in a another normal picture book. All in all it wasn't a bad book .

  3. ***Good! When Sylvia Mendez was a girl, her family moved to Westminister, CA. She was made to go to a Mexican only school. This book is the amazing journey of the Mendez family fighting for ending the segregation of schools in CA. How would you feel if you were in her shoes?

  4. okay**
I did't like the the part where Mexican children couldn't go to the school with ever one else. The courts said they could. They were happy at the end.

I enjoyed the book Separate is never equal because it talks about segregation.
One thing I found interesting is Mr. Marcus never called Sylvia to testify.
I would recomend this book to a friend because it teaches you to be fair

  6. ***Great.
The book is about a Mexican girl and her family talking and complaining that all children should go to the same school. All kids should get the rights to go to a good school! Even though, they finally got to a good school, at the start they went to a bad school which had no teacher,no restroom except for the dirt in a room, and ate lunch outside with the cows.
We are lucky that we all can go to a great school, no matter the color of your skin.

The story was all over the place but the book was good. This story is a story about segregation and the rights for all races of different kind. Read this book to find out how the Mendez family get equal rights for all races.

  10. ***Good its not right that a mexican girl and her brothers cant go to a school just because there are not like every bodyelse. The mexican kids has to go to a school thats in the middle of no where. For lunch they had to sit outside on the ground. They deserve to go to a better school. They should treat others how you want to be treated. Why does it matter why what color they are. This a good book

  12. ***** Great
the book was really great. I like learning about that period of time. Everyone should be able to have the same rights and be able to do the things that white people do, like go to the same school as white people. Its not fair because their cousins could go to the school and they couldn't .I hope they don't change the law back how it used to be.

  13. **Okay I'm maybe being a critit but, i don't like how its about the skin and backstory again. Lots of skin books are about rights, I'd did like that fact that it took 3 years to have the mexican students atend white school, meaning that they fought for their rights. Last thing is that I like the art how it was sorta greek mythlogy.

I like that it tells a story of people fighting for their rights. I also thought it was cool that they didn't stop until they got what they were fighting for. To me, the Mendez family was really dedicated to get their equal rights. i would totally recommend this fantastic book.

It is a fantastic story against racism, but I am just a tad too old for picture books.IN the story, people stand up for what they believe is true, and right. I would recommend this to a friend.

I liked the book because it described how people didn't give up on fighting for their rights. Sylvia Mendez tries to get enrolled into a school, but the secretary declines because of their race. Sylvia's father spoke with some of the school staff, only to be rejected of her enrollment again. He never gave up on getting her and her siblings into a clean school, so Sylvia's father kept on fighting. This is a great informational book!
