Zane and the Hurricane: A Story of Katrina by Rodman Philbrick
A twelve-year-old boy and his dog become trapped in New Orleans during the horrors of Hurricane Katrina.
***** I give this book five stars because I like the jokes that the girl says in the book. why would the mom leave her son to go on a plane that is just not safe? I think this book really is thoughtful because you can feel like you were in Zane problems.
***** I like this book because of all the problems for Zane. The mom is crazy because she left her son for a plane. Zane is lucky to have some helpers. I think everyone should read this BOOK!!!
****Great! Imagine having to survive a hurricane alone like Zane and Bandit did. Scary!! Once they are rescued, Melvina tells jokes throughout the book to take their minds off of what they are going through. Which one is your favorite? Does the hurricane help Zane understand more about who he is?
I really love the beginning because Bandit sounds so cool. I like the way that Zane talks about his visit before the story actually starts. But it is so sad that the father is dead.
*****I couldn't put this book down. I can't imagine having to survive a hurricane all by yourself. They met some interesting characters along the way. I am so glad that Zane had his dog Bandit to help him. You need to read this one to see how the two survive, floodwaters, no electricity, lack of food, and a near death experience.
*****Amazing I couldn't stop reading it, by now I've read it 5 times. I loved how Zane and Bandit had to go through many hard ships before the survived Hurricane Katrina. Bandit almost got Zane into the clutches of death multiple times but he pulled through Bandit even almost got himself dead at a time in the book. You have to read this book to find out how they survived the flood, the winds, the snakes, the smell, and the people who stand in their way.
***** I think this is a book is amazing because some how he survived a hurricane with no shelter a little water and food I could not imagine being in a hurricane with a lot of foodThis is a good book u should read it
***good i liked this book. the way they described bandit made me imagine him to very cute. i think it was crazy that Zane's grandma thought that ac is bad for your lungs. it was easy to imagine Zane.
****great I would be afraid to go through a hurricane like this. My family left home when I was a little baby because of the storm. I would be scared without my mother. I am glad Zane had Bandit.
*****GREAT I think the book Zane and the hurricane was great because of all the things zane went through during hurricane Katrina he lost his home he did not have his mom and his dad his mom was were Katrina was and his dad died in a car accident i would recommend this to a friend.
****Great this remind me that doing that time people where afraid because during that i was born and scared just like the people in new orleans .It really good that Zane had his dog bandit with him during the storm. It remind me that we went to go help them when it was over it a really good book and you should read it
*****great! This book is really heartwarming, thinking about being in Zane's shoes, the little girl, and the man, who were kind enough to help him out. I have to agree with Charlotte, the girls jokes were funny. I would really recommend this book to a friend or a teacher :D

*****Great I loved this book because it had alot of action,and it made you think what was going to happen next.one thing that I found intersting is when bandy jumped out of the van and went running all the way back to granmas house.I would reccomend this book for fourth grade and fifth grade cause it has alot of pages and it has action and adventure
I enjoyed the book because ... It talks about Zane's life and feelings daring the Hurricane and it grabs my attention when the Hurricane starts.My favorite part is when Zane shows some action in the book.
***Amazing I like how without Mr.Tru and the girl he would have died in the attic.I especially love the way they knew where to go and who to trust.This book had everything I thought it would action,adventure,and survival.

*****Great I loved this book. The way the author describes the event really makes me feel like I am in the story. It was very fun going through the story imagining I was in the book,like when a snake jumped in the canoe it was like I was right there when Mr.Tru threw it out of the boat.
***GREAT I enjoyed this book because it has history and a hurricane that i can relate to the book .I was a baby when it happend and I love the time line at the end to tell when and how it happend. I love that it is about KATRINA and what have could happen to some one.
****I love it. It was so surprising when Zane found out that he had a grandmother. I like how he calls New Orleans smellyvile. When he founded out that a hurricane was coming I was so scared because he had to survive with his dog bandit.

Sometimes I think that happens with me and my dog. So... I'd recommend this book to a friend because its very adventuress.

*****Best Book Ever I was so scared when Bandy jumped out of that window. I was also scared through out the whole book like it was real AND it was. Before I finished it I thought about how the people could have tested the leeves in case a hurricane came so that they wouldn't get swept away and other bad stuff. But I hope that everyone else will enjoy it just as much as I did.

I love this book! I think it was a good book because it reminds me of when I went to my great grandfathers house. it reminds me about how he lived far away and when I went to go visit him there would sometimes be storms. and I would get scared. and I like how it uses a lot of description in this book. so if you like well descriptive books and storm books I recommend this book to you!

*** Good it reminded me that you never know if a light rain will turn into a bad storm like when memorial day weekend we had really bad weather. And I was stuck in a huricane, I was really scared. I recommend this book.

****Great I liked this book because you saw what it was like to be in Hurricane Katrina from a kid's point of view. Zane has to go see his great grandma in New Orleans before she passes away. Ironically, a huge hurricane came into town the same week he was there named Hurricane Katrina. He has to survive with a few others simply in a canoe, along with his dog, Bandit. I'd recommend this book to everyone.

The jokes were corny and funny I used most of them myself. It was sad when the girl's mother went back to rehab
